The Western Canada Group of Chartered Engineers

Continuing Professional Development

In the near-to-middle future, we foresee the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia could require evidence of Continuing Professional Development by individuals as a condition of maintaining their individual registration as Professional Engineers.
As a local representative of the larger UK learned engineering societies, the Group believes it can take a leading role in providing CPD in an accreditable form through its program of technical meetings and site visits, mentoring efforts, and members' activities within their own Institutions.
The Group plans to explore and develop this role through increased liaison with the APEGBC, and a review of its own technical programs in relation to the Association's CPD requirements.
Another important objective is to provide credible evidence of CPD by expatriate engineers, to the Engineering Institutions and regulators of the profession in the UK and Europe. Should our members wish to resume practice in Europe in the future, their opportunities should not be limited or denied due to a lack of accredited CPD.
This is an embryonic program which is still at the planning stage. Members or others wishing to contribute ideas or time towards the establishment and development of a specific plan should contact:-

Bob Martin, Hon. Secretary
